One day a man came to Jesus and asked the question, “Which is the great commandment?”  Jesus replied with a very interesting answer: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (see Matthew 22:35-39).  The man asked for one commandment, but Jesus gave him two.

We see this repeated later in the Bible in 1 John 3:23, where the apostle John writes: “This is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.”  Again, the most important single command from God is actually made up of two: love God and love people!

Many would say that a spiritual person is one who climbs high up a mountain, isolates himself, and gets away from people.  But that’s not how God defines “spiritual” in the Bible, nor is it the example Jesus gave us.  God clearly tells us that our love for Him is seen in our love for those around us (see 1 John 4:20-21).  It’s easy to say, “I love God.”  It’s much more challenging to actually love those God created!  The world is crying out to be loved, and we have the God of love living inside of us.  Be sure to let Him out so others can know and experience this loving Father that you know.
