It seems our society is searching extremely hard to find fulfillment out of life.  All of the glitz the world offers – ungodly sexual pleasures, money, fame, power, and so much more – actually produce a lack of fulfillment.  The person who searches these means to find satisfaction will only find themselves wanting more and more.  There’s a temporary fulfillment in these things, but that fulfillment doesn’t compare to the emptiness that will soon follow.

In John 12:24 Jesus tells us: “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”  He wants us to be aware that when we choose to give our lives away, that’s when our lives will finally produce something that matters.  When we realize that we are living on this planet so we can help others through the gifts, talents, and abilities God has placed in us, that’s when we’ll find the fulfillment that nothing else can bring.

If you’re regularly battling depression, thoughts of hopelessness, and the frustration of not knowing your purpose for living, let me suggest a remedy: serve somebody!  Find someone with a practical need and meet it in a practical way.  If you’ll open your eyes and heart to people in need, there’ll be no lack of customers for you to help.  Not only will those you reach be better off; you’ll also experience the joy that comes from giving some of your life away so others might live!
