You may have seen or heard about the movie “Trading Places”, where a financially poor street hustler trades places with a wealthy and successful businessman. While this is only an imaginary scenario that sets the stage for laughs, there is a similar truth from the Bible that can drastically change our lives: Jesus has traded places with us!
In 2 Corinthians 5:21 the Bible tells us, “Christ never sinned but God put our sin on Him. Then we are made right with God because of what Christ has done for us.” Another version of the Bible tells us that Jesus actually became sin for us so we could become righteous like Him. Those of us that are born again stand before God completely clean and right, not because of what we have done but because of what Jesus did for us. With this acceptance we have from God, Hebrews 4:16 says that we can boldly come into the very presence of our Father. This is a truth that is hard for the natural mind to accept, but it’s a reality for us who know the Savior.
If we’ll see ourselves as righteous in God’s sight, it will affect so much of what we do. Truly knowing that we are right with God will cause us to live a godlier lifestyle. This is a spiritual reality from God’s Word, a truth that can change who we are and how we live every day.
